Hello!
My name is Bree and I am a brand new, right
outta the box, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed CF-SLP. I
love reading blogs, getting therapy ideas, gaining knowledge from Facebook
posts when I should be researching journal articles for the same information,
and being a school-based SLP (so far).
There are so many speech blogs that
talk about such adorable things- look how I organized my room! I created this
bulletin board from Pinterest! Look at these materials I made in my free time
to sell! Don’t get me wrong- that is awesome and I have definitely utilized these resources. I have spent far too long looking for free resources online because I just
finished grad school and I am 45k in the hole. No- I don’t have $3 to spend on
teachers pay teachers. (Okay you are right- I do. What's $50 on top of 45k??) Yes, I will make it myself in 5 hours. I only have to
buy a laminator, scissors, and in no time it will be a shitty version of yours!
Because that is real talk. I love crafts, artic cards, and books just as much
as the next SLP. But guess what? I have been at my new job for a week and I am
already terrified. More so of the things they didn't tell us about in grad school. I have to talk to teachers? Why does the principle hate me? Why is this child tearing about my room?
I don’t want to pretend that it is ALL bubbles and flowers
and sweet smiles. I have thrown away materials from 1977 because parents might
get mad when their kid comes home to talk about the lingerie cards (yes, that
was in there.) There are boogers, germs, angry teachers, and actual shit in our
jobs. We better talk about that because we are SLPs- what else would we do?
Paperwork? Ha!
Welcome to Real Talk.
